For the majority of the human population.

If we take the idea/understanding of the #ComputationalSystems (still not #computers then) of the pre 1980s — It was like rocket science shit held up in rooms with lots of wires and stuff. Nearly nobody knew what it does.

If we take the idea/understanding of the computers in the late 80s till early 2000s, it was more like TV like stuff with typing boards where one can interact to some extent.

If we take the idea/understanding of the computers post early 2000s till mid 2015s it gets out of its material limitations, it becomes more of a mix of tangible and intangible elements, some #Internet based functions and the rest set in the machine.

Post that the intangible part gets bigger, the #PC gets more “Cloudy” (now we call the improved Internet, the Web 3.0, the Cloud). More functions and storage and activities in the #Cloud than on the #desktop or #laptop, #mobile phones and #netbooks are just #nodes or points from where we can access the place where all the action is.

So the Cloud gave us accessibility, decreased physicality, but the most interesting part it played is that it brought multiple #data points (data sources/data streams) together under one roof. Look no interaction is one way, the more the users, the more the nodes, the more the strength of a #network, the more is its data generating capacity.

I said “the most interesting part it played” that is because of the role it played in getting to its next evolutionary stage i.e. #DataSystems. Now if you think for a few seconds — #IoT, #Blockchain, #AI, etc. all new #technologies are data related or data based #inventions. The word #InformationTechnology (#IT) came much earlier but now we are entering its core. If there are no major out of this world breakthrough most of the additive developments and minor original jerks for the coming decade will all be data based.

And going by the pace of it a decade of inventions now is equivalent to multiple decades of the 20th century.
